SEREMBAN: A senior citizen misplaced RM228,000 after being duped into investing in a cryptocurrency funding rip-off which promised profitable returns.
Nilai Police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim mentioned the sufferer, in his early 60s, claimed to have been added to a Telegram group by a person final October and inspired to put money into the cryptocurrency by way of the ACCERX Hong Kong platform.
“The sufferer initially invested RM8,000 and made a revenue of MR15,000.
“The person was then inspired to extend his complete funding to RM228,000 by way of 13 transactions to 9 totally different accounts,” he mentioned in a press release right this moment.
He mentioned the sufferer realised he had been duped when he couldn’t withdraw his funding after being advised that he was concerned in cash laundering actions and he then lodged a police report yesterday.
